Thanks to the FCC, it has been learned that the company will soon launch a software update thanks to which HTC U11 will add Bluetooth 5 without the need for hardware-level changes.
Currently, bluetooth technology is offered in two forms, Classic and Low Energy (LE). While the first allows us to connect all kinds of accessories to our terminals (headphones, keyboards, mice, speakers, etc.), the second makes a more efficient use of energy, consumes less, and is ideal for wearables, beacons, and more.
The new generation Bluetooth 5 was unveiled by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG) last year and is based on the enhancement of that Bluetooth LE and on the increase in the speed of data transmission, that is, Bluetooth 5 is faster and more energy efficient. And it is that fortunately, this increase in speed is not at the cost of greater energy consumption, on the contrary, because Bluetooth 5 uses 2,5 times less power at its highest than its predecessor.
The new Bluetooth 5 chips became available in early 2017, so there are still few devices that integrate them, such as Samsung's Samsung Galaxy S8.
The HTC U11 will receive an update that will integrate Bluetooth 5 support that does not require any hardware changes, which probably means that the hardware was already incorporated in the terminal, but a software update is needed to get it up and running.
At the moment, we do not know the release date of this important software update, although it does not seem to be very far since it has been known through the FCC.
