HTC presented its smartphone U Ultra during CES 2017, becoming the first Premium smartphone to be announced this year. The company also said that a sapphire crystal version would come later.
While initially everyone thought that the HTC U Ultra with sapphire crystal would be limited only to the Taiwan market, it seems that HTC intends to offer this model also in other countries. Now, a recent report indicates that the U Ultra version with sapphire crystal will begin to be marketed in Germany and Switzerland from April 18 and its price will be 849 euros.
The standard model of the HTC U Ultra brings protección Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and it has a price of 699 euros in Europe, although this figure depends on the markets and the VAT that is applied in the different countries.
Sapphire glass adds more protection but costs more than Gorilla Glass coating
Sapphire crystal was added both the screen of the HTC U Ultra and the rear camera in order to better protect the sensor in case of occasional drops or scratches.
This type of glass is made from crystallized aluminum oxide and is used in Apple Watch and other devices. It is more expensive than Gorilla Glass and appears to provide improved protection against shocks and drops.
