HOW TO GET ROOT ACCESS ON AN HTC HERO

hero_hero

Well, we already have a manual to get root access in our dear terminal Htc hero. As I suppose you know, but for the one who is new I say it, having root access We have administrator access to our terminal and with this we get access to parts of the software to be able to change it, install new rooms, install applications that need to access in root mode, and endless benefits.

Also tell you that since androidsis We are not responsible for the possible damage that may be caused to the terminal, but nothing should happen if it is done correctly.

We need to download these two files recovery.img and superuser.zip. In addition to these files we need to have the Android SDK downloaded and unzipped at the root of our computer.

Steps to follow after downloading the previous files:

1.- We must turn off the phone and turn it on fastboot mode, press the back arrow key and without releasing it press the power key and an image similar to this one will appear.

fastboot-htc-hero

This is the fastboot mode.

2.- We unzip the two files previously downloaded inside the tools folder that is inside the Sdk folder that we have also downloaded.

3.- Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable

4.- We execute the following commands from the console or terminal:

fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img

The phone will reboot and enter recovery mode with a number of options on the screen.

5.- Type the following commands again from the terminal or the windows console:

adb shell mount / system
adb push su / system / bin /
adb shell chmod 4755 / system / bin / su
adb push Superuser.apk / system / app /
adb shell reboot

The phone will restart and you will have root access in our Htc hero.

This manual collects the information offered in the forum xda-developers and from here we can only thank all these gentlemen who facilitate the use of our telephones.

everything works fine until i boot in recobery mode as it won't let me mount / system via adb

    1.    admin said

I don't know if you have the drivers installed. It comes with the Android SDK.

  2.   kenobyte said

I already have the driver installed and reinstalled but nothing.
I had also thought about it but either I don't have a good version of the driver or the ADB service doesn't load

    1.    admin said

When you open the console, where do you run the adb from?

  3.   kenobyte said

    from where is the adb.exe => c: \ sdk \ tools \

I'm already thanking you for the interest. hopefully we'll even get it ^ _ ^

    1.    admin said

if you put adb devices what appears on the screen?

  4.   kenobyte said

I don't have it in front of me but I remember that.
if I run adb devices nothing comes out. with adb it gives me the command options but when checking services [adb devices] does not report anything and shows the promp again.

    1.    admin said

the fastboot if you have executed it correctly?

  5.   kenobyte said

Yes. and it loads the image of recobery because it gets to restart and show me the options menu

    fixed:
    problem with the driver.
By doing it from another computer I have been able to do it the first time and without problems.

and about what I got when I did adb devices => List devices attachmen… blank…. and promp [in case it serves someone in the future, being blank means there are no active services].

Thank you very much for everything and I encourage you !!! you're not alone. keep working just as well that although sometimes it may not seem like it to you, you are a great news and help service 😉

Hello Kenobyte. Thanks for the cheering. The truth is that sometimes I don't know if I'm writing for someone or not, or if I'm doing it wrong.
I was looking at what happened to you yesterday to find something to solve it, I thought they were the drivers, but I wasn't sure why I don't have the Hero, let's see if htc would send me a telephone to prove (for asking) that the money did not give me It gives for more, but it must work because I have read many users of other websites that it does work.
Now we just have to wait for them to release some modified roms for the Hero.
      all the best

Hello Er1k. with permission of Androidsis I tell you:

[The steps are these only? that is, if I strictly follow what it says here, will I have root access? or are there intermediate steps that are taken for granted for an average user?] if these are the steps required to give root access. they are not needed anymore.

[The issue of drivers is a step that is not written because we are supposed to know how to do it? Or are they already implemented when you unzip the SDK in the root?] in the sdk that you unzip in the root contains a folder called "usb_driver" which is the one you must check to find the drivers for "new hardware device detected". you have two folders «x86» if your computer has a 32 Bit processor and «amd64» if it is 64 Bit [+ info:. In the course it will ask you for the drivers 2 times [1 recognition of the device and 2 the ADB].

As you can read above, due to a problem with the installation of drivers, it did not work for me and when I changed computers it worked for me the first time.

Another thing: in my hero I have activated the root user with all its permissions but when I need them I do not get the action confirmation window. I attribute it to the fact that in the computer that I rooted the hero there is the SDK with the necessary files to root and boot the magic along with the ones I dumped from the hero. I have pending to root again this weekend to solve it but if something similar happens to you or you have any questions, comment it here and we will try to solve it together.

    hello2 😉

Hello, I am studying computer science and I have given some scripts and commands in Linux, but I am rather a novice in the subject.
    The question is:
The steps are these only? that is, if I strictly follow what it says here, will I have root access? or are there intermediate steps that are taken for granted for an average user?
For example: the issue of drivers is a step that is not written because we are supposed to know how to do it? or are they already implemented when you unzip the SDK in root?

    Thanks for the help, regards!

    Thank you!
you see .. the hero comes to me next week and I'm thinking about rotating it, because being something complex makes me afraid that something bad will happen to it, but with your help I might throw myself into the pool 🙂
Anyway, I am trying to install the SDK that you can see is not only unzipping it at the root, but I have to download a program called eclipse and follow a few steps so I can gradually rotate it.

    regards!

    1.    admin said

You just have to unzip it. Eclypse is a JAva development environment, which you only need if you are going to program for Android.

  10.   er1k said

ups! I think that the eclipse is to program android I'm getting a little messy right? : S

  11.   McAnan said

    hello.

I've gone to download superuser.zip and it won't let me, it says I don't have privileges.

Can someone hang it somewhere else?

    thanks…

    1.    admin said

That is because you are not registered on the xdadevelopers page. Go to that page you register and it will let you download it.

  12.   er1k said

If I root it, can I send files via bluetoth?

    thanks!

    1.    admin said

Rooting the terminal all it does is give you phone administrator privileges. But only for the fact of obtaining root or you can send by bluetooth. There is an application that allows you that is called bluex
      all the best

  13.   er1k said

So what are administrator privileges for?

What can I do that I can't without root?

    1.    admin said

Privileges allow some applications to access parts of the system that they might not otherwise be able to. Also being root you can change the rom to the terminal and change the visual themes.
      all the best

Hi, I'm new and a newbie. First of all, I congratulate you on the work you do, and well I have several doubts. I have htc hero and I would like root but I don't know how to execute the console commands, sure my question is very easy to answer but I have searched all the sites and I can't find anything, thanks in advance and see if someone gives me a cable.

    1.    anthocara said

Well, you must install the htc hero drivers on your computer, connect it via usb to the computer and if you have windows, press start and the option to run, type cmd and a black screen will open, there is where you type the commands. You must have downloaded the android sdk

  15.   double slope said

Thank you very much antocara for responding so quickly, I will try tomorrow and tell you

  16.   double slope said

Hello, I will be sorry, but I am very new to android and in general, I tried what you told me, the sdk did not have it, but it still does not start. internal or external executable program or batch file, which I do wrong I think I don't have the drivers properly installed sorry for the inconvenience

  17.   double slope said

I forgot I have windows vista I don't think it's the problem no

  18.   double slope said

Hello. They have helped me with the issue of rooting the htc hero, but I still can't get it. I do something wrong. I have looked at other forums and I have seen that I am missing some steps, such as adb_win and fastboot. Can someone help me in more detail how to do it? thanks in advance and patience please, I'm a newbie.

Is there someone who knows how to root for people who have updated to the latest version of orange?
    thanks !!

  23.   sikgerar said

    try this:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613

If it doesn't work for you, try making a "goldcard"

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683

I hope I can make a guide to this soon, maybe there are many of us who have updated our htc hero too soon. by next time we will have learned 😉

  24.   beo said

    Good,

I guess this method is for those of us who have firmware 1.5, right? If so, you have to use the SDK 1.5 (the one you indicate there), correct?

The "recovery.img" is down, can you upload it again?

    Thank you,

  25.   sik_gerar said

this method is for everyone right now, since as of today 2.1 has not (officially) come out for the hero.

Regarding recovery, you can search for amon-ra recovery for htc hero, here is a link for the latest version in the xda forums, 1.6.2:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124

you won't complain about response speed huh?

  26.   beo said

Thanks sik_gerar !! The truth is, I have more doubts, I have a lot to read from what I see. My intention is to root it to be able to install ROMs for example that are not orange, is what I say correct? And another question is if I root it using this method, will it be rooted forever? Or every time I install a new rom, do you have to root it again?

By the way, which firmware installs the latest updates for Orange / HTC or HTC?

    Greetings and thanks,

  27.   sik_gerar said

I remind you that if you have the latest orange firmware installed, you will have to follow the guide used by the goldcard (modify some data at the beginning of the SD card by adding information from your phone to be able to load unsigned code) in the "wake up from the cemetery" style on the psp... look for it on androidsis that you have it very close at hand.

As for root, when you have root you have root with that firmware, and it allows you to install whatever you want. Now, if you install a firmware that also has root, you will continue to have root, but if you install a firmware that does not have root (like the official orange ones), you lose it.

get into the modaco forums, I am very happy with your firmware. Its latest version is 3.2b5 for payment (if you pay € 10 it gives you access to the latest beta always) that runs with version 1.5, or 3.1 free (the one that I run, which is great). If you want a 2.1 you will have to download some other (villainrom 3.3 is the one that most people are using in hero with 2.1), but I prefer to wait for the official version of hero with 2.1 and that modaco modifies it, because really it does a great job, it is the most usable on a day-to-day basis.

  28.   sik_gerar said

I'm rewriting myself, take a look at these two guides, I got them by searching for "hero root" in the search engine at the top right of this page.

    https://www.androidsis.com/como-hacer-root-en-htc-hero-despues-de-actualizar/

  29.   beo said

Well, thanks for reminding me since I had bundled between the firm number 1.5 and the update number and from what I see I have the update or compilation number 2.73.61.5 of orange (the mobile arrived 3 weeks ago) ... so it happened to the next post https://www.androidsis.com/como-hacer-root-en-htc-hero-despues-de-actualizar/ and I start reading from there now 😉

It has become clear to me about the root and the firms and I also take advantage and I am looking at the modaco. Thanks mate

  31.   sik_gerar said

of course, look, in the following link you have the xda forum about the hero:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=512

Here as you can see they have a pin attached to a branch with the title of the latest version of the recovery of amon ra:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124

where they always have the latest version and some mirrors of the download.

good they have given me an htc hero and when I want to copy the agenda through the oulut I connect the phone with the usb cable and it does not recognize me, someone can tell me how to get the drivers, or how I should do it

Hello, the link to download the Recovery is dead. Where can I download it from? the other file I think is the same.
    Thanks greetings..

    1.    anthocara said

      It's already updated

  34.   sik_gerar said

look for two comments above yours, and you will see the answer. almost everything you can find is in xda, which is not, it has it in its forum modaco.

    all the best

  35.   dldiegouru said

IMpecable, thank you very much, I already downloaded almost everything, I am missing the superuser.zip that I don't know where to find it. Thanks for the good vibes 🙂. As soon as I find that file I will throw myself to route my Hero and then I will tell you what happened 🙂 Greetings!

  36.   dldiegouru said

thanks antocara !. Little by little I am liquidating the issue, now I have to see what happens, since when I launch the command:

    adb devices ...
it tells me: adb server is out of date. Killing….
    * daemon started successfully *
    List of devices attached
    (and nothing appears here)

What I'm doing now is updating the "Android SDK and AVD Manager", at this moment it is downloading some files, maybe that's not it? It would be the drivers I imagine. Thank you if anyone knows any pike or tells me if I'm on the right track 🙂. I already read all the other posts from people who were like me but I have not yet been able to get the hero to restart to enter the recovery.
    Greetings and thanks..
