How to get root access on the Motorola Cliq

El Motorola Clic, which in Spain and outside the United States we know as Motorola Dext has been rooted or otherwise, you can already get root access to it. As we know, when have root access to the system We can run a series of applications that need this permission to run, and we can also change the rom for other "cooked" ones.

Every process of making rot in a terminal implies a certain risk of being left with a useless telephone, so we are not responsible for it. This does not mean that if things are done correctly nothing will happen.

1.- You download the drivers depending on the version of Windows

2.- Download and install Google RSD-Lite 4.5.7.

3.- Download this SHX file and unzip it.

4.- After installing the drivers and the RSD Lite application, run the application with the phone connected to the computer and select the last SHK file that we have unzipped. Select the terminal and click on start. The terminal will reboot in recovery mode and apply a flash, then it will reboot again.

5.- From the android SDK and using adb we type the following:

adb remount

adb shell chmod 4755 / system / bin / su

Now we download this file and execute the .bat file.

We do not know if this method is also compatible with the Motorola Dext.

    And what's that for!

    1.    anthocara said

To be able to install applications that require this and to be able to change the rom

  2.   WhikY said

Has anyone tried this on a Motorola Dext (MB200) from Movistar in Spain? ¿?

I would venture to try it on mine first, but I depend a lot on the mobile and it would be the first time that I tried something similar on a mobile. I have previously tried with consoles and so on, but not with mobiles

  3.   Fanti said

I'm in the same way as whiky, if someone ventures to try the dext and it works for them, say so and give the motoblur xD

  4.   WhikY said

Weno, in the end I made up my mind and I think I have already achieved it on my Motorola Dext (Movistar)

Although I recommend that you look at a tutorial on android adb and sdk.

I looked (if it can be put, but delete it without problems) this link, which although it is in English, I think it is well explained:
    http://www.techhackz.com/2009/12/how-to-root-your-motorola-cliq-and.html

Good luck Fanti, and to the rest that they try it tb.

  5.   AD said

Let's see if I try it this week! Thanks for the link WhikY

  6.   AD said

WhikY, what SHX have you done it with? tmo-morrison-viper-1.1.31-P3-rootedbythedude.zip or "Boot + Amon_RA Recovery SHX" (from the link you send)?

Hi, how am I from Mexico and I also have the motorola dext and I could also do the root?

    1.    anthocara said

I guess so, it's the same phone

  8.   rikimm said

Well I have a problem when I connect the USB to my computer it fails me and how I know that everything was done well because according to me everything is as before, only that some things I no longer have, that is, what the company puts on it they are no longer as I can confirm if I did everything right

  9.   AD said

Doubt for who has rooted the Cliq / Dext:

After rooting (the Dext with this method):
    - Motoblur still works, right?
    - Do you have to reconfigure something on the phone so that it connects well to Movistar (and 3G), APN, ...?

  10.   rikimm said

If the motoblur works the same, I only notice some changes, for example, before I had an option how to receive the data if I only did it through wifi or 3g and another problem that I have is that the sd memory is not connected to the computer through the usb I do not know if I did something wrong and apart from the software that they put is t mobile there will be some way to put the software back in the factory

  11.   rikimm said

hehej I already saw that I did not do it well as under the sdk adb

  12.   AD said

    @rikimm:

One question, the option that you say of «an option d how to receive the data if I only did it by wifi or 3g«, do you remember where it was? It does not sound like I have seen it (I have not dared to root it yet), but it interests me.

Thanks in advance, in return I'll tell you how to download the Android SQK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/ , download it, launch the setup, and download the components (I don't know if all of them are needed but I suppose at least the USB component, so that adb can see your Dext)

  13.   rikimm said

Look at that option in configurations, well, in my case, it was like this, since I had the amiricalatin firmware or something like that, and if I lack that of the sdk and adb to put the instructions, I give it in recovery and it does not send me the following screen, I would ask whinky to tell me what I did wrong

  14.   rikimm said

I am still in the same ones I can not install the sdk if someone can help me or WhikY what you have already done, see if you can help me I leave my mail if they want to contact me in msn riki_mm@hotmail.com

  15.   rikimm said

hehehe they will say how annoying here right hehehej but to the web I suggest to put a guide of the sdk or adb so that the new ones like me osea noob haha they know how to do this and understand a little better what this is about the root there andobiendo how to do it with the sdk, greetings to all

  16.   rikimm said

someone knows where to write this:
    adb remount

adb shell chmod 4755 / system / bin / su

I imagine that in the eclipse program but in which part I have already downloaded everything, install versions 1.5 to 2.0 I need help

  17.   rikimm said

Now if everything is solved I did it as I could and if I recommend it, nothing fails if you follow the steps you need to see the sdk with adb before doing all the process so I wish everyone luck what they want to do if they need help or explain how to do the steps there is my luck email above

  18.   rikimm said

and I forgot to see if someone can explain to me the options that root has and how much can be done

  19.   AD said

Anyone who has done it with a Movistar Dext?

Once the entire procedure is done, does it still work with Movistar (Voice + 3G Data)? Or do you keep the T-Movile ROM and a mobile that only works for you in the USA?

    @rikimm: SDK / ADB tutorial: http://bit.ly/8gBeAv
by the way, you have to execute the adb command in a cmd.exe window

  20.   rikimm said

ad you stay with the rom of t mobile pork toy seeing that my fon does not have the functions of 3g but even if it is mobile if it works for me I get messages calls etc ... only that the only thing that does not work is the 3g there will be a rom for you to have the 3g

  21.   rikimm said

I have a doubt what is the difference from the rom from tmovile to the orange from France, what is the difference could be that the orange has 3g pork the one from the United States does not have 3g from what I see in my cell

  22.   AD said

@rikimm: the Orange FR will have an AZERTY keyboard. At least I see that as a difference.

  23.   rikimm said

Hmm, wrong I thought it came with 3g because my cell no longer has it when I rooted it and someone will know some manual in Spanish on how root works and how to put the roms or applications

  24.   AD said

If I'm not mistaken, 3G comes by default. In fact it is not something you can enable / disable.

However, maybe what you are missing (because it should not come in the ROM you have flashed) is the APN (Access Point Name) configuration for your operator.

Look in http://modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/Carrier_APN_Settings if you find yours and if it's worth it. If not, I suppose that by calling your operator they must provide it to you (tell them you have a new free mobile and you want to configure it).

There is also an Android app called APNdroid that allows you to backup your APNs in an xml on the SD. Then you can restore it.

If not, manually go to Settings / Connections. Wireless / Mobile Networks / APN: Menu, New APN and enter the info there.

I hope it serves you and it works for you (in any case, tell it here)

  25.   rikimm said

Grax ad you have helped me I only had to configure apn to activate the 3g and if I found wl it is company. Grax again and I hope you already have it rooted your dext greetings

  26.   AD said

I'm glad it works for you. Just out of curiosity, in the end did you put the TMobile ROM? I haven't rooted mine yet, it scares me a bit that it won't work later ...

  27.   rikimm said

If I put the tmobile one and everything is fine, I have not had problems, only that some apps like the marker enabler do not work for me, I cannot make it work, lol, but everything is going well, it is not to worry, I hope that now if you dare
Obviously if you follow the steps well and enter the sdk and adb first before doing the root luckily

  28.   AD said

    Rooted dext!

For info, my page about the Dext: http://bit.ly/7DXep3

  29.   gelor said

@rikimm Hello, my DEXT is from Mexico, from the Telcel operator. I just rooted and installed the T-Mobile US ROM and everything works fine.

I just wanted to ask you if you managed to access the option that originally came from Settings> Data Delivery, where you could choose the All connections - WiFi only option, since I don't have a data package contracted and apparently my phone has been connecting to 3G when it can't find a WiFi network and I don't want to be charged later. I would really appreciate your help!

  30.   rikimm said

a pus so that it does not enter the 3g thing, what you can do is delete the telcel web as ad says: manually go to Settings / Connections. Wireless / Mobile Networks / APN: Menu, New APN and enter the info there.
The info that is in apn you delete it so that it does not connect to the 3g in case you remember with the telcel rom you do not see that there was an option of how it had to download the data and you put it that it was always wifi with the mobile one no longer do as ad told me and erase all that you have and solved your problem

  31.   gelor said

Thanks a lot! I downloaded the app that mentions AD (APNdroid) and modified the APN of Telcel's 3G network, so I suppose it will no longer connect ... How cool is it to find forums in Spanish from other Cliq rooters! Kudos 😛

  32.   WeaponX said

Magnificent Forum !!! I am from Mexico and I use TELCEL, I have rooted my Dext without major problem !! Thank you very much for all your wisdom in this matter if I can help with any pleasure.

  33.   AD said

I also have the Dext / Movistar Spain (+ root). When I bought it (new contract registration, with voice + data (mandatory)), I didn't have access to data right away either. It must be that it is activated after a short time. If I remember correctly, not being able to connect by 3G I had to go home and connect by wifi to be able to register in MOtoblur and thus enter the Dext. It did not have the 3G icon or the voice coverage stripes, throughout the afternoon / night. Then it occurred to me to turn off the phone and restart it and it did connect well (voice and data).

I hope it helps you. If not, call the Movistar CAC.

  34.   wine said

Thanks. Ok, I imagined that it was something of that, to wait a while, because the APN access is well configured, I will restart a couple of times until the night to see if I already had it. I had other doubts:
The subject of making a modem like this one, someone is wearing it, what happens to movistar if it comes from the comic strip.
The address book to pass it here from the iphone, I synchronize with outlook and then what? there is something to get off sync roll like for the pda oq? It could be done from a file sent by mail and that's it, right? at this point so much roll.
To install apps, do you have to root? I imagine that only those that are not free, of course.
    Regards and thanks in advance.

  35.   AD said

In the Dext comes Motoblur, which synchronizes your Gmail / Facebook contacts, ... with the phone (more or less well).

To synchronize with Outlook, I don't think it can be by default (I don't). There is NitroDesk's TouchDown I think (a paid app, ~ $ 30 I think) for syncing mail with an Exchange, but I don't know if it syncs the contacts. I still do not use it because in my company it is not enabled for everyone.

The root thing has nothing to do with whether you can install paid applications or not. Without root, you can install free or paid applications (paying for them I suppose, I have not tried). With root the same, but you can use applications that need root permission (vpn issues, phone modding, backup / modif of system files, ...).

The topic of Tethering, or "modem" as you say, can be done by USB or by wifi (I think so far it can only be done by changing to the DevTeam ROM v1.0 that they have released last week, being wifi tethering the great news!). To do it by USB there is an application (you don't even need to be root) see http://bit.ly/dtMe4T.

I don't know if Telefonica allows it or not, and / or what it would do if it detects it. Does anyone have information (verified or reference to the contract) that contributes something on the subject?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Android and especially with a Dext :-). I have posted several links, which I think are interesting on my website.

  36.   rikimm said

What's up with everyone, olle ad a question, you know how to install the app to the sd pork where I saw it, I don't understand anything and that of downloading the ubuntu just to modify the sd as it doesn't go hehehe it's not because of laziness but I'm going to take time more in downloading the ubunto than in modifying the sd there will be no other way to say hello and the new welcome to motorola dext root will not regret their dext even if they leave another one among «» better
I await your response, my good ad greetings

  37.   AD said

@rikimm: nothing to install Ubuntu, as you say takes longer and I don't think it will help you much!

Install Astro File Manager (ASTRO http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.metago.astro). This App is the cane, it allows you to navigate in the SD, and for example install an apk that you have in the SD.

It also (highly recommended) allows you to make a backup of the apps that you have installed on the phone in a directory on the SD. (then it can be restored): Super useful if you change the ROM and you have to reinstall the downloaded apps.

Otherwise, less powerful, «Apps Installer», only allows you to install apps from the SD.

    I hope it's worth it!

  38.   rikimm said

Ad I think you went on the other hand hehehe what I want is the app that are installed on the cell phone I install them in the sd so as not to occupy the memory of the cell phone because that does not mention the ubunto that says I have to partition the sd so that the applications I installed them in the sd and executed them from there not from the memory of the cell phone

  39.   wine said

Well, after 40 hours I still do not have 3G activated, I have restarted it several times and nothing at all, this already pissed me off, when I get home around 15 pm I will call the Movistar CAC, you know the CAC number, it is free, I fucking pay for a failure of them. Thanks.

  40.   AD said

    haha yes indeed.

What you comment I have not had the need to do yet. Regarding partitioning the SD to create an ext2 and a fat32 partition, apparently there are several methods. One is to do it from Linux (you can use Ubuntu, but it is not necessary to install it, just drop the liveCD.)

It can also be done from the adb shell of a recovery rom, like the Amon_RA recovery image.

    Look in http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/.

Then I think you have to install the apps2sd application.

If you do, tell us 😉!

  41.   wine said

What I was afraid of, I called and they forgot to activate the service in the store, you have to screw yourself, because the girl was very pretty, if not! Everything solved, they told me that in 10 min I would have it and it has been, without restarting the terminal if you want. Greetings and thanks. I will continue here for the dext mods.

  42.   rikimm said

ok ad but with that the applications are already installed in the sd so that it does not occupy the memory of my cell because the memory of the cell very little and when it starts to fill as the cell becomes a little slower and apart I imagine that it is more convenient and install in the sd memory only that I would be careful not to delete the folders of the installed programs, true

  43.   AD said

For those who already have the root on their Dext, I recommend updating to a ROM based on 1.1.31 (which has the Battery Manager, which is not in the default ROM 1.1.7 of Movistar for example).

I also recommend installing the setCPU application (free if you register with http://bit.ly/bhUvdR where the developer publishes it): allows to define profiles according to battery charge, battery temp, ... and define the CPU frequencies by profile to save battery; for example: if in stanby, limit the CPU to 245MHz (instead of 528MHz by default).

  44.   @jonax said

AD, where can I get the ROM you mention?
"ROM based on 1.1.31 (which carries the Battery Manager, which is not in the default ROM 1.1.7 of Movistar for example"
    Thank you

  45.   @jonax said

    OK thanks
Now I have an HTC Magic.
For points and € 49 they offered me the LG GW620, which is very similar to this one, but changing to Movistar, they give it to me for € 0, so I got this one, plus from what I read, this is better in the deal / social media options.
I was looking for an Android with a keyboard and well priced, so I think I'll be happy.
I still do not have it, but I am finding out about everything.
In the Magic I have installed a ROM based on the Eclair. The good thing about the HTC is the large community of users that there is, and also the amount of chefs there are.
Do you recommend any forum, besides this modmymoto?
    Thank you

I have bought a motorola dext, but I can't find the radio and I have been reviewing what they have written something about root or root to be able to listen to the radio, if someone could explain it, thanks in advance

  51.   rikimm said

Well, as far as I know, you can't put on the radio that has it included, yes, but they are adapting a program so that you can listen to the radio as far as I can. Where did you see that to see it and do it and if I succeed, I'll explain how to do it

  52.   AD said

@marco: what we mentioned above about a new radio does not refer to the fact that you can listen to the radio with the Dext (in theory it could, since the Bluetooth chip that the Dext has if it is capable of tuning FM, it has done You try a certain Eugene, but I think he still has not managed to get the sound, you can only see that he tunes).

What we are commenting on about new radio is that in the USA Motorola has released an update of the radio, which is the component of the telephone responsible for the communication of the terminal with the operator's network (voice / data).

  53.   Marco said

ha, sorry, AD but a question can you listen to the fm radio on the motorola dext, I ask you because on the idg.es page it says it has a radio but it doesn't explain where it is if you could help me see where it is , excuse the ignorance because going from a nokia navigetor to one of these terminals if there is a difference

  54.   AD said

@marco: as far as I know, it can't be done yet. There is no application that allows you to listen to the radio on the Dext.

  55.   Marco said

thanks AD, then the whole rooting roll is so that it has a greater coverage and speed of communication if so, someone tell me how to do it but in Christian if you can; I don't know if you can see the youtube videos, because I can't see them or if someone knows how to do it, thank you.

  56.   AD said

@marco: follow the method of TheDudes in M3 (ModMyMoto) to root. If you are in Spain you can install the rom of TheDudes 0.4.1 US (not the Orange FR, since it has an azerty keyboard).

Read the forum instructions well, and if you are going to install another ROM later, read carefully the instructions of the guy who made it and the feedback from people. If there are 50 comment pages, take your time to read them and if you have questions ask them there.

That to read well, it is more than fundamental since the update to Motoblur 1.3.18 that includes a new radio. If you install that new radio you can no longer flash a SHX from a previous version (1.1.4 or 1.1.31). IF YOU DO, YOU CHARGE THE PHONE and you keep a brick (briq). AU have not found a solution to this.

My recommendation, for now be cautious and stick with the current radio and limit yourself to ROMs: TheDudes 0.4.1 US, Handler 1.2 (not 1.3), or kb7sqi 1.0.5 (not 1.3.18)

  57.   Fanti said

well in the end I am going to encourage you to root the dext, my questions are:

those roms, what version of android do they carry?
When do you get the tutorial in Spanish AD? xDDDD
Jokes aside I do not see much sense to root if the roms are from android 1.5 ...

  58.   Serch said

    @rikimm

To be able to send emails from your cell (smtp port) you need to ask Telmex (I suppose you use infinitum) or your internet provider to unblock port 25 so that you can send, Telmex blocks it because of spam ...

I would like to root my Dext but first I would like to know what advantages you have seen by modifying it. On the other hand, does anyone know how to use google search instead of yahoo search that comes with the default Dext in Mexico?

    regards

  59.   AD said

@Serch What you can do is install the T-Mobile US TheDudes 0.4.1 Rom, by default it will come to you with Google search :-).

Hi… I'm new to the forum but I've been reading and getting information about rooting for several days, I'm from Argentina and I have a clear Dext, when I want to load the boot + the recovery of the dudes, the rsd throws me an error «Failed flashing process» ... I do not understand why, first I thought it was the pc, I switched to another pc, always following the steps and with all the drivers installed, I tried putting the cell in data debugging mode and deactivating that option .... now I think it could be the recovery that does not correspond to my version of the cell phone, but I can't find another one and I don't want me to change the radio version since I would be left without 3g…. what I do?!!!!

  65.   adlx (AD) said

    @ignacio:

As far as I know, for the Motorola Dext from Argentina and Venezuela, which already come with an updated radio (1.3 or * 5025 *), I think there is still no way to root them without updating to the T-Mobile radio, which may lose 3G :-(.

TheDude method with the SHX does not work with the 1.3 radio ...
The Orange FR rom method will change your radio, without the possibility of replacing yours.
