How to deactivate or activate SMS in Hangouts
- To select the menu you have to press its button on some phones or on the three points in the upper right for others.
- Settings> SMS
- In «General», choose «Activate SMS» to activate or deactivate this feature
After just deactivating this option, your default application for SMS will start to handle these types of messages.
It may also be that you already have a brand new Nexus 5 with Android 4.4 KitKat, where instead of seeing the aforementioned option of "Activate SMS" you will see "SMS Activated".
