Huawei's Honor brand has once again demonstrated the AI capabilities of its latest flagship, the Honor Magic 2. The flagship phone was used to navigate a driverless car.
One of the main factors that made this feat possible is the powerful Kirin 980 AI chipset, which is said to provide higher computing power than other chipsets. Another feature that played an important role in the phone's ability to assist car navigation without an actual driver, was the smart virtual assistant called 'YOYO'.
YOYO has tons of features similar to what other wizards offer, but it also has a similar function to Google Duplex. During the Magic 2 launch, Honor showed a video of YOYO's assistant making a hotel reservation for her owner. The company also said that Magic 2 owners will also be able to use the YOYO assistant to control DJI drones by voice. Additionally, there was a live demo of this at launch, where the Honor CEO used his voice to ask the drone to take off, take a photo of it, and land as well.
The driverless car control function is another amazing ability of the virtual assistant. The Magic 2 attaches to the dashboard in front of the passenger to capture the front view, thus utilizing the triple wide-angle camera setup on board the device. The steering wheel is also specially modified to control the direction of the vehicle.
With a supposed IQ of 4,556 points, we may see more YOYO features soon. However, we doubt if this driverless car will go on sale anytime soon. Perhaps the car was driven on a private track and it may take a while for it to evade many regulatory hurdles before it can be tested on the highway.
