Honor 9A: Unboxing and in-depth analysis

The cheapest range of Android mobile devices is arguably one of the toughest markets in the world. On this scale, brands compete to be able to sell the greatest number of products to the most demanding public, the one that investigates the most to try to make the most intelligent purchase, and that is precisely why we are here today.

Stay with us to take an in-depth look at this Honor 9A, where we will tell you all the good and bad that we have discovered about it.

At the top you can take a look at the video of our colleagues from Actualidad Gadget in which they carry out the detailed unboxing of the device, as well as an in-depth look at its operation and of course the design. We invite you to subscribe and help our community continue to grow.

Materials and design

Honor bets on the simplicity and the materials known in this Honor 9A, in it we find plastic in abundance, and that is part of its charm, and that is that if not, they would hardly be able to make a device with such a battery and that it did not weigh like a brick. We have a well-colored plastic on the "chassis", we can point to the green version, the white version or the black version, at our choice. The back is made of plastic too, imitating glass and quite slick. It shows a huge camera module that reminds us of the Huawei P40 Pro and houses three sensors.

  • Size: 159 74 x x 9mm
  • Weight: 185 grams

This rear part closes with the fingerprint sensor. However, down we have a last minute retro touch, we discovered a microUSB port, something that we did not expect almost at the end of 2020, but hey, never say never. It feels light and relatively compact with that drop-type notch on the screen and a small bottom bezel.

Cameras

We start with the main sensor, where we are with a resolution of 13MP with standard f / 1.8 aperture,It offers a result within what I expected in the high range, with a relatively good autofocus, but with some problems in terms of backlighting and obviously noise appears in the lowering of lighting. These 13MP give enough quality to offer sharp images. We accompany it with a 5MP Ultra Wide Angle sensor with a very versatile 120º field of view.

  • Main sensor: 13MP
  • Ultra Wide Angle Sensor: 5MP
  • Depth sensor: 2MP

Finally we have a 2MP depth sensorensured for best results with Aperture mode and Portrait mode. Obviously we lack a Night mode due to the power of the processor and sensors. For its part, in the front camera we have a well-centered 8MP sensor that offers a result that is quite in step with the beauty mode. Personally, I could have dispensed with the depth sensor and would have opted for a higher quality Wide Angle. As for the video, you can see the captured image in our test on YouTube.

Multimedia content

As you well know, we bet on a 6,3-inch panel with HD + resolution, that is, little above 720p. We have a good ratio and good settings, Huawei tends to do this quite well, even on these lower-end devices from its cheaper subsidiary. We have a good contrast, a sufficient brightness to defend ourselves outdoors, and ultimately a screen that we cannot define as the quintessence of mobile telephony, but that is more than enough taking into account the price of the device.

We have a single speaker on the bottom that has a high volume, nothing canned and enough to consume multimedia content such as videos, as well as listening to music. I can not fault the multimedia section considering that we are well below two hundred euros, in fact I would say that it is precisely the most prominent section of the device along with autonomy.

Technical characteristics and autonomy

Regarding the purely hardware section, nothing that we do not expect, you could miss 1GB more of RAM, but the user interface moves quite fast with the included hardware, even taking into account the great speed with which the fingerprint sensor is handled, something that Huawei always does very well.

  • Display: 6,3 ″ HD + resolution
  • Processor: Helio P35
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Storage: 64GB + microSD up to 512GB
  • Battery: 5.000 mAh
  • Connectivity: 4G + Bluetooth 5.0 +

This hardware comes with Android 10 and Magic UI 3.0.1 customization layer, yes, we remind you that the absence of Google Services will mark your experience with the device. While it is true that on the YouTube channel of EloyGomezTV you will find how to install them easily and quickly.

Autonomy and connectivity

We do not miss much at the connectivity level, we have Bluetooth 5.0, we accompany him from LTE 4G through its DualSIM port, but yes, We can only connect to 2,4GHz WiFi networks, something that I do not quite understand, because many low-cost devices already work at higher speeds through 5GHz WiFi networks.

As for the battery, 5.000 mAh that guarantees us more than two days of use, around 9 hours of screen In our tests, with a 10W charger that is included in the package, of course, remember that you will have a microUSB cable, without a doubt the one that could be its «most negative» point.

Editor's opinion

We must mention that at the moment the Honor 9A is not available in Amazon Spain, you can only purchase it on the official website of Honor where the price varies depending on the offers between 129 euros and 159 euros. It is clearly positioned as a great alternative in low-cost telephony, without forgetting that we are going to find a curious stumbling block with the absence of Google services, and it is precisely the audience that it focuses on is perhaps the most reluctant to this type of steps.
