Currently having a smart wearable on your wrist means that you can access some of the most used actions such as notifications, monitoring of physical activity, the weather and what time it is. Fans and the industry that sells this type of device will say that the possibilities are endless, but in the end, it is those few actions that are used and for which many think if it is necessary to make an extra payment when you have it all on your smartphone.
The problem for smartwatches under Android Wear is that both Huawei and Motorola and LG, declined to update their repertoire of smarwatches during the second half of 2016 (although we had this arrival); which makes it difficult for sales figures to increase. To try to encourage people to follow this type of wearables, Google has published Android Wear 2.0 Developer Preview 4 which integrates two-factor authentication, payments in apps, promotions through all apps and the return of the gesture to discard notifications.
Google will allow Wear-based apps to be able to log in if it is already logged in on the smartphone, thus saving the step of entering a name and password. Another novelty is the implementation of payments within the app directly from the Wear app. Users will not have to relegate on their smartphone to authorize those purchases. Instead, the user can enter a 4-digit PIN to authorize the purchase immediately.
Those two characteristics have the objective that be more independent smartphone, as well as the two new APIs (PlayStoreAvailability and RemoteIntent) that allow you to install the «smartphone» component of your Wear app.
Finally, Google brings the gesture to reject a notification and now Android Wear 1.0 apps can be installed on Wear 2.0 devices. Now we have to see when Android Wear 2.0 will be released so that it becomes a better platform for wearable manufacturers.
