Google Photos will incorporate an «Explore Map» to view photos by location

Explore map

Google Photos is working on an interesting new "Explore Map" and that it will allow us to see the photographs by their location. Since many of the photos we upload to Google Photos have geoposition data, you could now see those photos on a general map.

Come on, that is a feature that has been in demand from Google's cloud image gallery service for a long time. In fact some developer has tried to release this feature that from a general map of the area will allow you to see where you took those photos and even more information about them.

In the version 4.52 of Google Photos, precisely in the source code, you can find several lines related to «Explore Map» and that will allow us to return to «visit» those places that have local information. They use this type of information:

  • GPS camera
  • Google's location history
  • Reference points detected

Browse map in Google Photos

The curious thing about these three references, apart from the use of the camera's GPS or the location history, and that we have from the Google Maps timeline, is the use of the landmarks detected interesting, since this service is able to "recognize" what appears in the photographs.

The code also makes references to the possibility to delete a photo from a location if this does not really match the capture. A new feature that Google Photos is working on, and that as we have said we have already had a solution from other developers like this Photo Map using Photos for the map.

Now we will have to wait for it to be launched at some point as a new update to Google Photos And so in a flash we can see all the photographs we took when we were on vacation in that city.
