Google removes the option to disable the operation LED of Nest cameras

Anyone who has a security camera or cameras in their home or workplace, depending on the model, knows that most have an LED that indicates when it is in operation, an LED that we can deactivate so as not to give friends a clue of what is foreign or because it simply bothers us.

Nest is the Google brand that is dedicated to making smart home devices and where we can find from thermostats to security cameras. The security cameras suffered a security problem and with which former users continued to have access to it, despite not being associated with their account. Now the problem is another.

In May, Google announced its privacy pledge in which the search giant promised a visual indicator when "your Nest cameras are on and sending video and audio to Nest." Google has begun to send its customers an email informing them of the changes that have begun to be implemented a few hours ago.

When the camera turns on and sends video and audio to Google's servers (so that the user can access them remotely), we will provide you with a visual cue. All Nest cameras, Nest Hello, and Dropcam devices will have that status light on while the camera is operating to make sure you and those around you know when the camera is on and recording.

So far, all Nest camera models had the option to disable the operation of this status LED. Now, you can only dim the brightness of this LED so that it goes a little more unnoticed. As expected, users of its products have expressed their discomfort on social networks, stating that this unilateral decision renders the security tools, due to their deterrent effect, useless that the search giant offers.
