Google adds eight new categories to the Google Play Store

Play Store

Looks like the Google guys are working hard to improve the Google Play Store a little. If two days ago they included a new algorithm that is capable of reducing the size of the apps and specifying the correct weight of each of the applications, now they bring another novelty, but related to the ability to classify all that digital content that they have in their vast store of apps and video games.

From its own blog, Google has announced eight new categories for Google Play, which already registers 1.000 billion active users in 190 countries around the world. Being one of the most important platforms on the planet, those of Mountain View continue to update it to offer a better user experience. If we already had the indy games section, now we have eight new categories that encompass a series of apps.

Eight are the new categories and Google has also taken the opportunity to rename others how many so that it is its most complete meaning and at the same time the search is more precise when being in the section that one wants.

All the new categories are:

  • Art design
  • Vehicles
  • Beauty
  • Quotes
  • Events
  • Drink & Food
  • Home
  • Parents

The category of "transport" has been renamed to «Maps & Navigation», and "Media & Video" will now be known as "Video Players & Editors." Some changes necessary to better determine the content that one can find in those categories and that limit a bit the user experience that anyone can obtain when browsing the Google Play Store. In any case, Google still has a lot of work to do so that the content in apps and video games is consistent with the categories, since there are times that one does not even know where they are.

These new categories will be added for the next few weeks, so do not worry too much if you still do not have them present on your phone.
