You can now paste images with Gboard from the clipboard

Gboard paste images

Gboard takes a few months updating with various improvements and this time it has touched two novelties. One of them is the ability to paste images from clipboard with the Google keyboard.

The other feature is the ability to use Google Lens in Gboard Search. Two interesting novelties, although the first entails another type of experience so that we can paste images without having to share them as we usually do.

Being able to paste images means that we have to copy it to the clipboard. For this we can use Chrome from version 84 the option to "copy image". This option if we don't see it is also available from chrome: // flags in «Copy image» flag.

Clipboard

This ability to copy we have it in Android 10, 11 and future versions, although in version 11 we can access it from the system. Of course, there are only 21 apps that offer support for the ability to copy images:

  • AOSP messaging
  • Badoo
  • Facebook
  • Google Docs
  • Google Messages
  • Hangouts
  • Helo
  • imo
  • Line
  • Lite Messenger
  • Motorola Messages
  • OK
  • Samsung Messages
  • Skype or Whatsapp
  • Snapchat
  • Twitter
  • Viber
  • VK
  • WeChat
  • WhatsApp
  • Zalo

As you can see in the image, when we copy it, we can see the clipboard thumbnail so we can paste it whenever we want. We only have to click on the thumbnail to go directly to the chat of one of the apps mentioned above in the list.

The Google Lens function when we click on Gboard it takes us to the interface text recognition. We select the same one that interests us and click on the send button on the keyboard and we will return to where we were.

These two new Gboard features are available from the server side, so from version 9.5.11 to 6.616 they would be available to enjoy the ability to paste images and use Google Lens for text detection.
