Dark Sky finally comes to Android to offer up-to-the-minute weather reports

Dark Sky

Right now it is quite difficult to stand out as an app for meteorology because we have a great variety of them that fit the needs of all types of users. One of the best, Weather Underground, was one of the last that went through these lines to bring a great update for an application that carries its service offering meteorological reports from the data collected from 33.000 stations around the world. An app that meets the needs of many users and that raises the bar for new ones to try to surpass it with more features and the odd novelty.

If I comment on Weather Underground, it is because it has many similarities with the new app that comes from iOS and is called Dark Sky. An app that is four years old and that has been desired by many users for its arrival on Android after meeting it thanks to Apple's operating system for mobile devices. Your "hyperlocal" information that allows be aware of any sudden changes in the state of time, it is one of its best characteristics and that equates it to that mentioned in the first paragraph. An app that, while on iOS is paid, on Android has a two-week free trial to test its premium capabilities, while in the free version it is cut short in options.

Its most remarkable features

Dark Sky for Android has the same functionalities that iOS users have: up-to-the-minute weather forecast, advanced notifications, accurate forecasts for 24 hours and the week, and maps of great visual quality as you can see when you install it.

Dark Sky

One of the differences with that of iOS is that in the Android version some particular features of this system have been added, such as desktop widgets and the ability to test the application before purchasing.

Dark Sky

The maps with which the forecast is presented They are of high quality and allow you to know at the moment when it will rain or when it will stop. In this way you can better plan your outings either for the same day, or plan the weekend. From those same maps you can review the history and a detailed radar image allows you to see the path that the storm is taking in real time.

Advanced notifications

Something is missing to stand out from this good repertoire of apps that we have for weather forecasting, and one of those, apart from being a success on iOS, are advanced notifications. You can receive rain notifications for the next hour, high risk alerts and even create your own notifications to, for example, have a specific one to know if this spring time there will be a very cold night that could endanger your plants. Another of those alarms allows us to create one for the days in which the UV index can be harmful to the skin.

Dark Sky

The idea of Dark Sky is that do not have to open every two by three the application to know the weather, so you can find notifications on the lock screen, or even from the desktop widget. These are three: for the next hour, of the day and of the week. The time is very useful to be aware of a graph of when the rain will start with a level that indicates it perfectly as you can see in the shared image.

The app is free from the Play Store with specific options such as current weather conditions, the forecast for the next 24 hours, one for the following week and weather maps. Inside the app there are a micropayment that unlocks Dark Sky Premium to have: minute-by-minute weather forecasts, advanced alerts and notifications, and widgets. You have two weeks to try the premium option and decide if it suits you.

The only momentary handicap is that its launch is in the United States, United Kingdom and Puerto Rico, but as soon as I have the APK, I will update the entry so that those who are not in those countries can download the application.
