OPPO today had an event where it celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Android-based customization layer, ColorOS. As expected, the manufacturer boasted of its achievements, including the number of users it has. However, the main part of the event was the presentation of the next major version of the cape, and it is ColorOS 6.0.
According to the Chinese company, ColorOS 6.0 is designed for borderless phones. But that doesn't mean phones with bezels won't receive the update; It means, rather, that the experience will likely be different on phones like the Find X and others that have few or no edges.
In terms of the user interface of ColorOS 6.0, Oppo has gone for a gradient color scheme. From the images shared by the brand, the colors gravitate towards white from top to bottom. In addition, the Chinese company adds that the reason for using white is to create a sense of space so that the content does not appear clustered.
ColorOS 6.0 also brings a new Chinese text font called 'OPPO Sans'. The new font was developed in collaboration with local font designer Hanyi.
The new version of ColorOS also brings performance improvements. Oppo says there is a new feature called AI Quick Freeze which prevents apps from closing in the background. Instead, the phone freezes the application. OPPO says that the AI system studies user app usage patterns for about 15 days and knows which apps need to freeze or not. With this new feature, OPPO says that total power consumption should be reduced by 7%.
When will ColorOS 6.0 arrive?
ColorOS 6.0 will start rolling out next year. However, there is no information on which devices will get it and whether it will bring Android 9 Pie as well.
