KRITA is a new open source drawing app for Android tablets and Chromebooks

CRITA

We will not miss the moment to talk about a new drawing app called KRITA. And more if it is open source with all that it implies. Of course, it is in beta and is currently compatible with Android tablets and Chromebooks. Which means you need a bigger screen to be able to start drawing on it.

If we say that we cannot let the moment pass, it is because it is not easy to find open source apps with which to draw. With Adobe Photoshop reigning, although with important alternatives such as Affinity, apps like this one, and more from a mobile device are more important.

The importance of open source

CRITA

Just yesterday we showed you a huge open source to-do lists app with which we once again put the accent on this type of free software. A software that you can go to its source code to take a look and see that there is nothing "weird", and that it allows others to improve it with the code that they add from Github; by the way we already have fully functional the app on Android.

If we go to the Google Play Store, there is a shortage of really "powerful" or a little complex apps, since there are quite a few, but glancing over to not give that experience that we are already beginning to demand from mobile devices with greater hardware potential.

CRITA

Now we have a new one called KRITA and that comes well supplied with everything that we usually look for in an app that can be a real alternative to Adobe Photoshop. As we have said, only available for tablets and Chromebooks; in fact we have tested on those 6,8-plus inches of the Note10 + and it is too small for us to use it, apart from the fact that it does not allow us to draw at the moment.

Developed by KDE, an international free software community

CRITA

We have already commented on its virtues around open source and that has been designed by KDE, an international free software community. In fact we have the desktop version that we can download and that has become a real alternative to programs like Adobe Photoshop.

But thanks to this new beta, Android users can have fun with this series of tools for drawing and digital design. This version released on Android is the same as 4.2.9 desktop. In fact, it has the same interface as the desktop version and therefore it has been impossible for us to draw on it through the 6,8 inches of the screen used.

Her CARACTERISTICS

CRITA

Of course, unlike the desktop version that has a cost, the Android version is free. Krita has a Photoshop-like interface and has a myriad of more than important features. We talk about 100+ brushes, stabilizer on the brush to draw perfect lines, vectors and text for comic bullets (in fact you can create a new bullet-like document on the new document screen), 9 types of brush engines, repeat mode for textures and a resource manager for importing brushes among other features.

But we can go to the base of functions with drawing assistants, layer manager, intelligent selection and transformation, color manager, OpenGL support, PSD file support (Photoshop's ones), HDR painting, Python scripting, and learning resources to keep up to date with this great Photoshop alternative app.

Being before him Krita beta releaseLogically, it comes with bugs, so it is a matter of months before these problems can be solved and we have an excellent Photoshop-style drawing and design app on our tablets; from what we have read it will also arrive optimized for smartphones and those smaller screens.
