Android facial recognition will come from the hand of qualcomm

Android facial recognition

A few days ago Apple introduced its new generation iPhone, with the iPhone X as the new flagship of the Cupertino-based manufacturer. A terminal that stands out especially for Face ID, the facial recognition system that comes to replace Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint system.

It is not the first time that we see a system like this, without going any further Samsung already has a facial recognition system in some of its phones although, make no mistake, its operation is far from being a substitute for fingerprints. This is where it comes in Qualcomm, which is working on its own Android facial recognition.

Qualcomm works so that its Snapdragon 845 processor has Android 3D facial recognition technology

It seems that Android users will not have to wait long to enjoy a technology similar to that of Face ID. The leading manufacturer of processors for mobile devices wants to find a solution and for this it has joined forces with the company Himax, specialized in this technology, to bring facial recognition to Android devices.

According to a leaked report, the 3D facial recognition, which works under a technology called SLiM (Structure Light Module), will be advanced enough to be able to replace the fingerprint reader.

The best thing is that the SLiM technology It has a minimum energy consumption so it will be compatible with any device. We do not know which will be the first terminal to adopt this technology, but what is clear is that facial recognition systems are here to stay.

And it won't take long to see the first Android phone with facial recognition system from Qualcomm. Obviously in the next edition of the Mobile World Congress we will have a long list of Android smartphones with a facial recognition system, what will have to be seen is if it really replaces the fingerprint reader.
