Sony executive explains why the company never had phones with great cameras

Sony has earned a great reputation as a supplier of camera sensors, which have been used in many smartphones, including several flagships to date. Despite this, the Japanese has never released a smartphone with powerful cameras that can compete with the photographic section of the best smartphones in recent years.

Sony's senior global marketing manager Adam Marsh has now revealed the reason for this, and we detail it below.

The Sony executive revealed in a recent interview with Trusted Reviews that a rivalry between the company's and Alpha's mirrorless camera divisions was responsible for the disappointing results the brand achieved on its phones, regarding photography. Marsh said that “even though we are a company, sometimes there are still barriers that Alpha doesn't want to give Mobile for certain things because all of a sudden it has the same as a 3,000 pound camera has. " This is logical, as the barrier is gone to some extent, as the camera division now recognizes that having a smartphone and a camera that give you the same experience is a good thing.

The new head of mobile phones stopped work on the long-awaited Xperia XZ4 with the aim of renewing the company's approach to smartphone design. The new approach saw Maki fostering collaboration between the various brands and the mobile division. As a result of this, experiences are now shared through the Cybershot, Alpha and Xperia brands, the executive explained.

Likewise, it promoted the possibility of Alpha camera software features coming to the Sony Xperia line. Perhaps Sony could be the first to give us the DSLR camera experience on a smartphone that we all crave.
