Samsung abandons the idea of implementing a fingerprint sensor under the screen

Fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen of an Android terminal

Months before the presentation of the new iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8, there were many rumors that both Apple and Samsung were having a large number of problems when safely implementing the fingerprint sensor under the screen, for which they had been forced to delay implementation in their future models.

As we could see in the presentation of the iPhone X, Apple has completely given up on the fingerprint sensor, both under the screen and on the back, opting for a facial recognition system dubbed Face ID. For its part, Samsung continues to bet on iris recognition in addition to a facial recognition system that has released the new Galaxy S9 and S9 +.

In the middle of last year, the first images of the Vivo X20 Plus were leaked, the first terminal that showed us the operation of a fingerprint sensor under the screen. Earlier this year at CES held in Las Vegas and later at MWC, Vivo showed us how this terminal works, a terminal that will still take a few months to reach the market. This leak implied that both Samsung and Apple needed greater security to be able to implement it in their terminals.

But as we saw in their latest releases, both the Korean company and Apple, They have given up completely and everything seems to indicate that their next models will not have this technology. The KGI Securities analyst has confirmed that the next Samsung models will not offer this technology under the screen either, so it is likely that, like Apple, it will develop another type of technology to block access to its terminals, or that it will improve the operation of the security that it currently offers, consisting of an iris scanner and a facial recognition system.
