Xiaomi's next flagship will incorporate wireless charging

Wireless charging continues to gain support among mobile phone manufacturers and although it is a system that does not require cables but does not require contact, at least for the moment, users also want to get rid of them. And it seems, Xiaomi will be one of the next manufacturers to join this trend.

The Chinese giant Xiaomi has officially joined the Wireless Power Consortium. This means that there is a high probability that your next flagship will become Xiaomi's first device with wireless charging.

Xiaomi gets closer to wireless charging

The Wireless Power Consortium was created in 2008 and its mission is to create and promote the adoption of Qi wireless charging technology. In 2012 it regained importance and popularity when Nokia and Google launched phones that supported inductive wireless charging using the Qi standard. Since then, it has become a feature that is always part of the specification checklist for each of the flagships launched by the big brands as Samsung, LG and, much more recently, Apple, also began to incorporate the technology. to their smartphones.

This is the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 designed by Philippe Starck

In fact, Apple was the last of these large companies to join the Consortium. It did so last February amid rumors suggesting that next-gen iPhones would finally bring wireless charging capabilities, as they have finally been. Now, according to the Wireless Power Consortium website, we should also expect another big company to announce a new smartphone with wireless charging technology: Xiaomi.

Although Xiaomi has not officially announced it, the Wireless Power Consortium website lists the Chinese technology company as one of its members. Therefore, it is very likely that Xiaomi is preparing to launch devices that support the Qi standard, although It remains to be seen if the first phone made by Xiaomi with wireless charging will be the Mi 7.

Obviously, this is great news since wireless charging is one of the features that is most missing in the brand's most recent products such as the Mi Mix 2. In addition, the Qi standard is little by little gaining momentum in everything the world, with multiple restaurants, cafes, shopping centers and establishments in general that offer charging bases for their customers.

What do you think of the current wireless charging technology? Do you think Xiaomi will launch the Mi 7 with support for the Qi standard? Would you be willing to pay something more to avoid having to use the cable when charging your smartphone?
