Kaspersky co-founder prepares a secure mobile against espionage and data collection

InfoWatch Taiga

One of the co-founders of Kaspersky Labs, Natalya Kaspersky, has a new project that involves the development of a new mobile phone that cannot be spied on and whose applications will not be able to collect user data in order to send it to external servers.

The new mobile is codenamed "Taiga" and was co-designed by InfoWatch Group, an organization led by Kaspersky based in Russia. To protect users, the terminal makes use of a series of enterprise-grade controls and a specialized mechanism that will prevent applications from collecting and sending data to third-party servers.

In addition, the mobile phone will also be useful for companies or governments to control the applications they want to install, in addition to providing control over those data or memory contents that can be shared.

The new InfoWatch Group project appears to be a response to the recent controversy with Kaspersky Labs and the United States Government. For those who do not know, the US government decided to prohibit its employees and other agencies from using Kaspersky security products to alleged evidence that they had links to the Russian Government.

Interestingly, it appears that the first 50.000 units of the Taiga mobile will be used by employees of several Russian companies that do have ties to the country's government.

For now, the company has not provided any technical details regarding this Android terminal. In fact, neither its price nor the market segment in which it will debut is known, but we assume that it will be a high-mid-range device, since its main objective will not be power, but safety.

The latest speculation about the terminal suggests that InfoWatch Group will sell the Taiga both in Russia and in some foreign markets, especially in areas where its offices are located, such as Malaysia or the United Arab Emirates.
