Corning reveals its latest Gorilla Glass SR + for wearables

Gorilla Glass SR

If we have had special chips for wearables how is the Snapdragon Wear 1100, we were already taking time to know the idea of one of the brands that have been focused in creating the panels so that when a smartphone falls to the ground, it can be recovered; although sometimes it is almost impossible to use it, since that blow has been too strong.

Corning has revealed the latest Gorilla Glass variant that has been specially designed for wearables, some devices that tend to be more exposed to shocks than smartphones. Corning describes Gorilla Glass SR + as a very different variant from what was created previously, mainly because it is based on Project Phire. This was one devised to test a new type of crystal and was named Project Phire in 2015 and is as scratch resistant as sapphire.

Scott Forester director of Corning Gorilla Glass, refers to it like this:

In early 2015, Corning launched Project Phire with the goal of create crystal-based solutions with scratch resistance with the help of high-quality coating materials, combined with the superior resistance to damage of Gorilla Glass. Corning Gorilla Glass SR + offers a superior combination of properties not available in any other material in its class today.

Based on Corning test labs, SR + is 70 percent stronger to the impacts that the other resistance materials of smarwatches and other wearables used today. Even taking a step forward, the company maintains that it has better overall performance in optics and outdoor readability which ultimately contributes to an improvement in battery life.

It has not been specified which manufacturers will use SR + for their wearables, but it is expected that it will debut in devices from global leading brands later this year.
