10 reasons to choose an Android:

Many of those who intend to acquire a mobile phone in the near future will acquire a smartphone, even if they have no idea what it means, no problem, that's what the Wikipedia. Many buyers are clear about what they want, others are carried away by what they are told is more "fashion", others do not care and buy the first thing that enters their eyes when they are in the store, but many others are informed of what is on the market and what each mobile offers you.

Undoubtedly, the development of technologies has reached a level where the features offered by a mobile phone no longer depend solely on its "hardware": screen size, memory, tactile or with keys, camera of many Megapixels (funny but it's what women are most interested in when they buy one), 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, USB connection, ... since manufacturers are showing that they can offer very similar technical characteristics (as for the same ranges of phones).

Right now, the functionalities of each phone, that is, what we can or cannot do with the mobile, and how we can do it, depend more and more on its Operating System and a little less on its physical characteristics.

Therefore, the first thing that a buyer of a new mobile phone has to ask is: What Operating System do I want on my mobile?

And that is why right now, I'm going to give you Ten Good Reasons to Choose an Android:

  1. Is Google. Who does not use a Google service?
  2. It's free. By this I mean that it is from open codeor. Anyone can download the source code of the Operating System, make the modifications that they deem appropriate, compile it and install it in the terminals they want without having to pay rights or royalties to Google.
  3. It's a Multitasking Operating System, that is, it is capable of doing several things at the same time (downloading a song, writing on Twitter and sending a photo via Bluetooth, all at the same time).
  4. The ecosystem of apps (applications, programs) for Android is also free.  There is a Market, and Google takes a commission for each application that is marketed through its Market. But you can install apps from any alternative market without infringing any Google rights.
  5. To this day there are more than one hundred mobile models of different brands (HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Sony, ...) that use Android as their operating system, apart from other devices such as Tablets, eReaders. That is, you can choose the brand you like the most (or the one you trust the most) and the model that best suits your needs and budget, with or without a keyboard, with a large screen (up to 4,3 ″) or a small one. .  Apple only offers 2 models iPhone3 and iPhone4.
  6. It is the Operating System for smartphones that grows the most. During the MWC2011 in Barcelona, those responsible for Google have declared that 350.000 devices are activated daily with Android. In the fourth quarter of 2010, Android mobile sales surpassed those of Symbian (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Mitsubitshi, LG, ...). Symbian is an already obsolete Operating System for the new generation of smartphones.
  7. The number of apps available in the official Android Market exceeds 100.000. It has a higher proportion of free apps than other systems (iOS of the iPhone, for example)
  8. Integration with Google services (Google search engine, Gmail, Calendar, Picassa, Google Maps, Street View, Google Reader, ...) reaches very high levels, with synchronizations. If your mobile phone is lost (or stolen) and you buy another one, you don't lose anything, no contacts, no emails, photos, or apps purchased in the Market. The whole process of putting the new SIM in the new phone and getting it back like the one you lost takes about 25 minutes. You can enter your contacts through the Google account from your PC and you will see how in a few moments they will be updated on your mobile (without cables).
  9. You have multiple desks (I have configured mine with 5, but I know users who have 7 and are just as agile) and Widgets What is a Widget? You better see it in pictures.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5uT3vNp2qc

  10. The development system is relatively easy for those who already have previous knowledge of Java. Just get off the Development Kit (SDK), free and available for different platforms (window, mac and Linux). A development environment program (IDE) as Eclipse, which make your work easier, although they are not essential. And you can start making your own applications, if you can't find one that fits what you need. You can also order that specific app you need from a developer, without having to pay Google a percentage.

The one who uses a Android no longer wants to go back to Nokia (Symbian), BlackBerry (RIM OS), Bada (Samsung, although lately Samsung is giving priority to Android over other systems it markets), or iPhone (iOS).  It must be for a reason... And for that reason, more and more of us have an Android at home (or three, like me). 🙂

This is the only thing I did not like »Apple only offers 2 models iPhone3 and iPhone4.». No one has to be convinced with comparisons. It's an Android why, not an Android why instead of an iPhone.

    1.    Trimax said

There is a lot of fanboy out there who thinks that because he carries an iPhone with Apple's apple, he is already more than you.

Then I show them my fully working Samsung Galaxy S and their jaws drop. When they manage to react a little, they tell you: «... well, that is sure Apple will release it in version 5.»

But I could have put the example of BlackBerry that barely reaches half a dozen models, and some of them are even worth seeing.

      1.    frameworks said

Do you teach them the camera flash too?

        1.    Trimax said

Yes, the one from the Nexus One that I also have.

Something that I missed the SGS when I saw it was the flash and the trackball, after taking pictures with it in a theater and seeing the result, I assure you that I do not miss it! photos with the flash you will see how little it takes to get you and your iPhone out of there!

          Yes to the HTC trackball.

  2.   Khyos said

I share what Museboy says, if you give 10 reasons why to adopt an Android Smartphone, that is on its own merits, such as that it runs flash or other virtues of its own.
Sentencing "who tries an Android no longer returns to another system" is an arrogant attitude that is attributed to Apple fanboys, starting to sin from this is a bit ... strange. Everyone is older and knows what to buy, "for whatever reasons"
Then clarify another thing, Apple only sells "one" model, the iPhone, the 3G, 3Gs or the iPh4 are the same mobile but updated. And since you get involved with it, at MWC2011 in Barcelona it was chosen as the best Smartphone of 2010.
Comment N ° 7 is taken a bit with tweezers, since "in proportion" is a misleading fact knowing that the applestore offers more than 300000 apps and that if only half of them were free, they are already more than those offered by android . That the police are not stupid!
There are still many things to polish in Android, but that is going to be the future that is undeniable.

    1.    Trimax said

Sure there are more reasons, but I had to put a number and 10 is a round number and I only have 10 fingers on my hands to count XD. Now seriously, the Flash support (which I enjoy, watching my favorite series from a well-known page) is true.

The last sentence may be too categorical, but I have seen people in my environment put aside iPhone and BlackBerry for an Android. On the contrary I have not seen it. And more than anything because you adapt the mobile to your tastes and needs.

As for Apple models, there are still stocks of the iPhone3 model that are still being sold. Although officially Apple only makes and sells one.

Regarding reason number 7, the ratio of paid app / free apps in Apple's AppStore is 60/40, that is, 40% of apps are free (Source: AppleSfera.com). In the Android Market it is more than 50% (Source: LookOut). I am not trying to fool anyone, it is correct information.

As in any Operating System there are things to polish, but Google releases a new version of Android every 6 months. His detractors argued against this thesis fragmentation. As of today, users with versions lower than 2.1 is already residual.

Next year around the same time we will compare the numbers again and you will see. You just have to compare the time it took Apple to get the iPhone to where it is now and the time it took Google to get it to the Android.

Greetings and thanks for your contribution!

      1.    Khyos said

Sorry to be tiresome, and I apologize in advance, but on point 7 you do not convince me. According to your data, the applestore has 240% more free apps than the android market, and I tell you that it is misleading because you do not give a reference. What you should also note is that the growth of the android market is much higher than the applestore.
As for the fragmentation, data that I did not want to get, if it is a problem that the fandroids try to make up, but it is a real problem and we must be honest, although more than 90% of Android users use 2.1 or higher. Fragmentation is a fact that directly affects developers, and indirectly users. Right now we have up to version 2.3, but a developer who wants a certainly wide market, will not develop an app with the benefits of Gingerbread until he sees business (we are talking about paid apps), with which, the speed with which it is Android updates, it is diminished by the slowness of adoption of new updates by manufacturers, and the user does not enjoy apps that express the wonders that the latest version of Android provides. I personally see it as a problem. And to say that between Eclair, Froyo and Gingerbread there is not much difference is like saying that these last 14 months Google has been touching the… and presenting nonsense, and it is not true.
Another thing that I do not understand is the chaos that they bring, They present Honeycomb (Version 3.0) and now they are going to release IceCream (Version 2.4)…. I do not see it clearly. They should stop fooling around and get a powerful OS compatible with all touch devices, iOS, webOS, and RIM do it, Android should not be less.
        A greeting!

By the way, you forgot to mention that, despite having 127 terminals running android, it could not with apple in the Mobile World Congres 2011 .. and that apple neither participated ..

Trimax show me the flash, but the one on the camera JAJAJJA ..
PS: And Yes, thanks to the apple market has more than 300000 applications, there are many apps that can move flash perfectly .. skyfire for example

It seems to me a very bad comparison, very superficial and that could be easily turned the tables. I am neither a fan of Android nor Apple nor any OS or company, but here is a point by point demonstration that what you have said does not make much sense

1.- What stupidity, what happens because it is from google? Not everything a company does will always be good.
2.- False, it is not 100% free
3.- All major mobile OSs today have multitasking.
4.- All that it does is make it more confusing for the user, as there are several stores where you can buy applications. I prefer one where everything is concentrated.
5.- Are we talking about mobile phones or OS? The fact that there are many mobiles harms the OS due to fragmentation.
6.- Of course, and with the same reasoning, as Windows is the PC OS that is sold the most and is used the most, I deduce that Windows is the best OS that exists ...
7.- Saying half truths. Greater proportion of free aps yes, but even so there are still more free applications on iOS
8.- Application synchronization is similar to that of iOS, in fact, with that OS, if your mobile is stolen, not only can you block it, you can also see the exact location where it is.
9.- I still find it very ugly visually
10.- Of course, everyone buys a mobile phone to program their applications. If you plan to sell it, you already know that the most profitable market is the iOS one

    1.    Trimax said

It is not a comparison of OS are arguments in favor of the choice of Android. Although in some of the points he has resorted to the odious comparisons.

If none of the 10 seem correct to you, and since you define yourself as lacking preferences for one or the other, perhaps you can tell us a pro-Android argument. Would you be so nice?

    2.    Aitor said

you're a fan of iOS right? ah it doesn't show much ... Anyway, how is it that it is not 100% free android? With iOS, maybe you reduce yourself to what they dictate themselves but however you want.

I haven't used Android anymore for a month, I had a motorola MIlestone, it's true that Android is free, but phone manufacturers make low-quality low-mid-range models, with very little power, a MIlestone demonstration at 550mhz, it's hard to move good Android 2.1, livewallpapers just start working decently with 1ghz.
The models that were until now in the HIGH range do not compare to the apple iphone, both in quality and in operation.
Do not be foolish, google activations are because they put Android in computers that do not have the power to make Android work well, but most people are not interested, they are scamming people because you can see that they do not they serve to run the OS.
Nor is there to be foolish with the subject of free code, most cell phone users do not touch or know what Open Code is, to put the reason in second place is simply not to see which sector the telephony is oriented to, not simply because of If the chiche allows modifications, the bulk of users are not installing ROMs and do not know how.
There is also the problem of updates, manufacturers do not release updates, Milestone is still waiting for FROYO, Quench stays at 1.5, Xperia mini just has 2.1, therefore THE UPDATE THAT YOU MENTION SO MUCH is truncated by the manufacturers' business model .
Android is a bet on the future, but you have to be realistic, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia will never release quality cell phone models because otherwise they cut the wheel of Update yourself / Buy another, iPhone is not interested, it prefers to have its audience captive with QUALITY and is aimed at a different audience

    1.    Trimax said

If you affirm that the high-end models do not compare to Apple's iPhone, it is that you have had in your hands a Nexus One, an HTC Desire HD or a Samsung Galaxy S (to give you a few examples).

The problem of the monitoring rate of the manufacturers' updates for their mobiles is not a problem with Android, but with the manufacturers (there we have the painful case of Sony with its Xperia still with 2.1), but for that very reason it is good that many Manufacturers choose Android, the more variety of brands, the more options the consumer has. If I felt cheated by Sony, I would not buy a mobile from him again, but if I like the OS, I don't have to give it up, all the apps I already have for him and all the information, contacts, ... I'm going to I buy an HTC (for example).

The operators also enter into this game, since when a manufacturer releases the new version for their devices, the mobiles "subsidized" by the operators, and which carry another compilation code, have to wait for them to "pass it through their control quality ”, which is what they call putting the garbage of apps, home screens, and settings that they do. Also, if you want, you can change your operator. Or you buy it free.

    2.    Marc said

Of course, because iOS doesn't release an update that is also more unstable on iPhone3 than on iPhone4, because iOS doesn't have apps that don't work well on iPhone3 either. You have to be realistic and not be stupid, people now change their cell phone every two to three. And with a Milestone you can't compare much. Get a Nexus One that has been on the market for a long time (by the way, cheaper than iPhone too) and compare them. You are surprised the same. Milestone, HTC Magic, Hero, and all these phones cannot be compared to higher-end models.

I was an iOS user for more than a year; Today I have an HTC Desire HD, I never go back to iOS. Android has everything I want, I don't miss anything.

My wife has a BlackBerry and an iPhone4 from work, and a private Samsung Corby. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S to replace my old HTC Magic (which I left to develop). OTA Froyo 2.2.1 arrived for Magic and when he saw it work he took it away from me.

This Friday he bought a Nexus One and he gave me the Magic back. I would have preferred that you give me the N1 to develop XD

More and more cases of users of BlackBerry, Nokia and iPhone (the latter less, but there are) are seen that go to Android.

  9.   trowa_barton said

If it were you, I would not get involved with the iPhone 4 yet, those ten reasons you gave are rather ten comparisons of why Android and not IOS. Just as you named that, I could name you 10 reasons why iOS and not Android.

Let's remember that Android still has many defects to polish, and in my opinion it still has a long way to go to overcome iOS, there are so many reasons that I will not list them.

I am not a fan of Apple, in fact it is one of the brands that I hate the most for its policies and restrictions. Even so I recognize the quality of their products, I have a Galaxy S and the iPhone 4 is next to me, and in my opinion the Galaxy, despite being more powerful, does not even come close to the quality of the iPhone.

    1.    Trimax said

If by quality you mean the case, in something you have to notice the difference in price:
      - Galaxy S 400 €
      - iPhone4 € 700
      - Android ... priceless. For everything else MasterCard.

That that the one who tries Android does not want another ... well ... I have had 3 androids, and I am looking forward to trying the nokia n8, because I know that with symbian I will not have update problems, everything works from the beginning, I will not depend on the manufacturer wants to update the phone, and the quality of Nokia finishes is superior no matter how much other manufacturers have put the batteries. I have already finished very burned from HTC Magic and with the 2 SonyEricsson of the xperia range that I have had and their NO updates

    1.    Leandro said

Dear, I want to tell you that many forget one thing, Android goes hand in hand with a team, with a hardware, therefore it is undeniable that when buying Android it is also necessary to measure it depending on the Hardware, the fluency of Android it leaves a lot to be desired in 85% of the teams that work today, within a year the gap should be narrowed.
Android is for now a too new system, a clear example is Android 2.1, without the possibility of putting the applications in the SD, a clear example of immaturity on the part of Google since they KNEW that Android would run on phones without much memory internal a clear example of generating dependence on the market depending on updates.
On the other hand, it has been a year and a half since Android has released Obvious updates, such as Improvement in poor performance, applications in SD, improvement in the application of the camera, sound equalizations, battery life etc.
Android is a bet on the future and I do not doubt that in 2 years it will be a wonderful OS, but today, it cannot compete, it is like pretending that RedHat or some linux distribution competes for the domestic market against Windows.
The user of a mobile needs speed, stability, simplicity in use, android needs time to attack these areas

    2.    Trimax said

I repeat, it is not a comparison, although in some of the points it resorts to the comparison with the other options on the existing market. When I have to make a decision like this, I start by ruling out the existing possibilities. In fact, I name other operating systems RIM OS and Symbian, not just the iPhone's iOS.

This is not a fight, I am making arguments in favor of my favorite mobile operating system, and the one that I recommend to people I know. If someone thinks that someone else is better, let them offer their arguments.

The greatness of the free market is that there are multiple options to choose from, that is also one of the reasons why I use Linux on my PC. Because I like to choose.

And that is also the main reason why I like Android (and for another 30 or 40 reasons, it was not a question of doing a Doctoral Thesis on Comparisons of Operating Systems for Smartphones), the freedom of choice that it gives me at all times .

I have no problem with fanboys, I have friends who are very happy with their iPhone and say that when I change it it will be for another iPhone. But I am one of those who likes to try different things and, sometimes, you are pleasantly surprised that you find something really good.

  13.   enrique said

Well, against all those 10 reasons, there is one that is bothering me a lot ...

The Android version. And it is that Google should FORCE brands like Motorola to update equipment. The one I have has 1.5 and they will never update it, it was the first one that came out in Mexico, DEXT or MB200, and at the beginning they had said that it was updated, but then they saw the business and forced us to buy a new phone instead of update the version. The bad thing is that contracts are made for 18 months and one has to let that contract expire to change it.

Android has too many versions and the developers only believe in the most recent one and although it works for them, they make it in 2.x but they have already forgotten about 1.5 ... That is breaking my ...

And I still have 3 months left on my contract. Now I'm thinking that maybe it went well for me because they plan to sell the Atrix in April ... I hope I'm lucky and they recover with that ...

    1.    Trimax said

The Atrix is a phone to consider, it has some impressive features.

Here in Europe, and more specifically in Spain, Motorola has not been very successful (it disappeared from the market for months, leaving a bad taste) and it is having a hard time getting its market share again.

The Defy is a good mid-range cell phone, which seems to be starting to take a little hole.

      1.    enrique said

It will be that the bad thing about motorola is its "motoblur" and what I comment, that they do not update anything!

On the other hand, users who have Galaxy S in Mexico have not updated their android version either. I don't know what happens but it seems that the telephony providers that we have have a hard time doing these steps.

Not to mention, while I wait for my contract to end and for an android to come out as current as possible (2.2 or 2.3) to acquire it ...

  14.   3lch3lo said

That happens to compare, many fans of the iPhone jump who never tried an android ... but I can guarantee that ANDROID is nuy superior to the rest of the OS ... and it will turn them all (Absolutely all), in fact this is already happening ... I found the comertario of JOGUIDAFTAN offensive but I'm not going to be fanning giles ... I continued with your iphone but you will remember me when you have to throw yourself to an android because iphone is no more ...

Yes, indeed I have had 2 or 3 years of updates. For the record, I am neither in favor nor against either of the two devices, and if you read above you will realize that I use both, and each one has its own. .

Note: There was plenty of hypocrites. . . 😉

I tell my experience, I always like modding, I had three Motorola phones with Linux, at that time for me it was the best there was ... After a while I switched to Nokia and the S60V5 left me very satisfied, now I have a blackberry and a android and I cannot stop modifying my Spica, sincerely it is the best option I could have taken and I will continue to have it at least until the prices of high-end cell phones drop in my country. At least I'm not going back. The important thing is to grow in every way and that is where android is pointing. Greetings.

Greetings, everything was going well until mentioning other brands and the iPhone, why ?, and this great 10 good reasons perfect now the 10 disadvantages of Android are missing! You have to be realistic as there is good there is bad, do not believe! I bought my Galaxy S because I like the green robot hahahahahaha, no kidding, the system is great!

For the comment that Enrique made, I completely agree with you, I have an LG GW620 that comes with Android 1.5 and the fact that LG has not released the update is still something that had me completely angry but it has a solution, looking for The internet I found out a few days ago that in Korea (if I'm not mistaken) they released an update with 2.2, I'm not a programmer or anything like that but the instructions to update the phone were quite clear, you just have to search a little and Although it is not the same model, I do not think there is no way to update yours, here in Panama they also apply the 18-month contract and I am starting with mine, at least with this I can wait more calmly for let it end

I have three terminals, a wonderful galaxy by the way with froyo 2.2 from robafone passed to another company, a nokia x6 16g and a nokia c7. What one lacks is the other and vice versa, within a few years another system will appear that will unseat android or they will come directly with ubuntu or mandriva as they already do with windows mobile, you discuss nonsense that are only a matter of taste. The only one I'm envious of is the motorola defy and only because it neither drowns nor bruises.

  25.   Trimax said

The Motorola Defy is an all-rounder. I have tried it for a while and it has a very nice touch. It is tremendously robust.

I have seen a Motorola representative scratch it with his keys and the glass he doesn't even know about it. Then she put it in her coffee cup, took it out, shook it a bit, and started calling with it.

The coffee then did not drink it XD

Windows Phone far surpasses this current »Android» system and leaves Apple's iOS behind! only that people get carried away by the media! NOTE: IT IS MY OPINION AND IT IS WORTH ME MOTHERS IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. it is a free forum! 🙂

The speed or slowness have nothing to do with the system you use, I use bada on a samsung wave and it is much faster than the samsun galaxy that I also have with android. The problem is in the applications, this confuses the user since android boasts thousands and thousands, but they should clarify that the second thousand that I comment are junk applications that are useless on a phone because of how impractical they are or because of their uselessness per se. In fact I have counted at least a hundred types of flashlight applications with the use of flash.
And I clarify another thing, they do not work on my galaxy s, but on my next galaxy 2

aps, and that symbian is an obsolete system ... nobody believes it. If it were obsolete, your latest update "symbian Anna" would not have existed and phones like the Nokia N8 or X7 would not exist. Symbian continues to be the most stable system on the market, with a good market for very useful applications. And Nokia, one of the most reliable brands, in fact I miss my wonderful c7 with its supercamera, its "MULTI-TASK" system.
And I remind the author of the post that Nokia has the world record of activated tasks with a total of 74 open applications, which I highly doubt can be achieved with an Android without at least half of them crashing or disastrously slowing down the use of the smartphone. And for those who do not believe it, here is the link:

The obsolete thing is said since Nokia has announced that its next terminals will carry the Windows Mobile operating system. They will stop Symbiam and Maemo, and will use Microsoft's operating system.

I am now using Android installed on an LG Optimus Black. I am delighted with it because it makes me feel free. I can install everything I want, from wherever I want, I don't even lose the manufacturer's warranty. The great advantage that I see in Android is that it is Open Source. Any manufacturer can take that operating system and compile it for their terminal. It is free and that makes it possible to sell phones at a lower cost, this being the most important thing for me in a terminal.

I do not like the policy of Iphone or Blackberry and nokia, with this last decision I have already been totally disappointed. Iphone and Blackberry, with their restrictions, mine is mine and yours is also mine. And Nokia with mounting windows mobile, believes that it has everything solved. They would have gone to work on their Maemo operating system as God intended and would have returned to their full splendor. Instead they go with Microsoft that the only thing they are interested in is making money and only making money.

      A greeting.

Each OS has its pros and cons, I am not a fan of the iphone or android but I like them and I have tried them, they still need to improve a lot and the open source android makes a difference; it's great any manufacturer can compile it for their terminal in addition to the prices of the tel with android; I hate the bb and according to analysts they will go under in less than what they believe until windows phone will leave them and the OS kings will be android and iOS even if it appears better for the future much better for users. postada: bb is a chanda

I have analyzed dozens of cell phones over the years; mine and other people. I know how to program in some languages and I have created some applications for various models. Most users have only experimented with less than 5 models. I do not give my opinion to give technical explanations, because for two people to talk about something they must have similar knowledge about that something, if not, it is like speaking in different languages. Finally, the user chooses according to their intentions: Aesthetics (luxury / price), connectivity (reception /, synchronization), Operability (Apps / services).
In my experience, I choose Android by far, it is for me the best option.

Jaa… 100 applications? the appStore has more than half a million of them, the fastest growing operating system? how not? If it is the only thing that companies can compete against Apple with, Android is really a developing OS, it has thousands of flaws and millions of patently erased patents, multiple desktops? pff a truly useless and irrelevant data ...

There will be lots of Android devices, but Android only works "fine" with the more expensive devices, your newly acquired device may not be suitable for the next OS update. You can't install as many apps as you want, I despair of freeing up memory when I have little left. Becoming a root user voids the warranty.
Currently I have an Android, an HTC One X, very good equipment, but personally I do not like Android, multitasking is apparent, it is NOT better than iOS.
Until 2 months ago I owned an iPhone 4, I am sorry I switched to Android.
And in the iPhone even the iPhone 3GS will be upgradable to iOS 6, a device from 3 years ago, not like in Android, which several from last year and all the current mid-range, cannot be updated to ICS.
Of course, it is my personal experience and the one that every iPhone user shares, after using iPhone, any other smartphone seems silly. Even though it has more power like the equipment I currently have or the Galaxy SIII, although the latter I have not tried.
ICS works well for me, but it is only because my equipment is the same or higher price than an iPhone, if it were something less, surely there would be problems even to open Facebook, as it happened to me with a SE Xperia Play.
I have to admit that the new voice control system in Android is excellent, faster than Siri.
