New Motorola Moto Edge S: releases the Snapdragon 870 and has a 5000 mAh battery

Motorola Moto Edge S

A few days ago we were reviewing the launch announcement of Motorola's new high-end smartphone, which has now been presented and launched as Moto Edge S. At that time we detailed several of the main features that this mobile was going to boast about », some of which we confirmed this time, as the device is already official.

For starters, the title that many are giving this phone is "flagship killer", and boy does it not look so bad. We could even say that it is something successful, and this is because the price with which it has been announced in China competes with that of any mid-range, without more, which is really interesting, because the Snapdragon 870 He wears under the hood is more powerful than the Snapdragon 865, high-performance processor chipset that we find in terminals with prices that start from 500 and 600 euros easily.

Characteristics and technical specifications of the Motorola Moto Edge S

The first thing we come across about the Motorola Moto Edge S is its screen, which is IPS LCD technology and not AMOLED to lighten the final manufacturing cost of the phone. However, it offers a high FullHD + resolution of 2.520 x 1.080 pixels that translates into a slim 21: 9 display format. The panel is HDR10 compliant and capable of working at a maximum brightness of 1.000 nits.

Also owns a double hole in screen, which is not attached in a pill-shaped module, but is separated, as shown in the pictures of the phone. This houses a dual selfie camera of 16 MP (main) and 8 MP (wide angle).

Regarding the rear camera system, the Motorola Moto Edge S has a rear module with three sensors that has a 64 MP resolution main shooter, a 16 MP wide-angle lens and a 2 MP bokek sensor for depth-of-field shots. To this we have to add the double LED flash that accompanies them and is responsible for illuminating the darkest scenes.

As for the processor chipset, as we already mentioned, the new Snapdragon 870 is the mobile platform in charge of giving power and strength to the phone, with the 650 GPU, the same that we found in the Snapdragon 865. Recalling a little, this piece is 7 nm and is capable of working at a maximum refresh rate of 3.2 GHz.

Motorola Moto Edge S

According to Motorola itself, the Edge S scores higher than the Xiaomi Mi 10 in AnTuTu. Its overall score on the benchmarking platform is 680.826 points, compared to 585.232 points for the Mi 10. These numbers are also due to the fact that the mobile's RAM, which is offered in 6 and 8 GB versions, is type LPDDR5, the most advanced for mobiles; this is 72% faster than LPDDR4. It is also due to the ROM, which in this case is UFS 3.1, which is 25% faster than UFS 3.0. Here we have an internal memory of 128 or 256 GB of capacity, which can be expanded through the use of a microSD card of up to 1 TB.

The autonomy of the Motorola Moto Edge S is provided by a 5.000 mAh capacity battery. It supports 20W fast charging technology through a USB Type-C port.

Connectivity options include support for 5G NA and NSA networks, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. It also has dual-band NFC and GPS. In turn, other miscellaneous features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, IP52-grade water resistance, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Price and Availability

The Motorola Moto Edge S has been launched in China, so it is only available there for now. However, it will later be released globally, but there is no date on this. The advertised prices are as follows; It must be borne in mind that outside of China these will increase dramatically:
